Saving Lives at Birth Announces its Sixth Annual DevelopmentXChange
50 Finalists to Showcase Innovative Ideas to Save Moms and Newborns
WHAT: Saving Lives at Birth: A Grand Challenge for Development’s sixth annual DevelopmentXChange:
The annual DevelopmentXChange challenges global problem-solvers, entrepreneurs, scientists, and innovators to develop and scale their transformational solutions to improve maternal and newborn survival and address the needs of the poorest and hardest-to-reach communities around the world. After receiving roughly 650 applications, this culminating event concludes a five-month review process where 50 finalists will join 54 current Saving Lives at Birth grantees.
The format includes an innovator pitch competition to investors and potential partners, private curated 1:1 partnering and mentoring meetings, as well as a public Innovation Marketplace of the most cutting-edge maternal and newborn life-saving innovations.
WHO: 50 entrepreneurs from around the world will compete for the 2016 awards.
Other attendees will be existing Saving Lives at Birth innovators; Saving Lives at Birth partners; potential collaborators, expert mentors, and global health and international development practitioners.

About Saving Lives at Birth: A Grand Challenge for Development
Saving Lives at Birth: A Grand Challenge for Development is a global call for groundbreaking, scalable solutions to infant and maternal mortality around the time of birth. The program leverages the collective resources of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Government of Norway, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Grand
Challenges Canada (funded by the Government of Canada), UK’s Department of International Development (DFID), and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). Launched in 2011, Saving Lives at Birth is currently in its sixth award round. To date, the Partners have funded 93 innovative tools and approaches, aiming to address the 303,000 maternal deaths, 2.7 million neo-natal deaths, and 2.6 million stillbirths that occur each year.
